Kate Middleton's Sailor Style / Tennis Style

Hi Style Stealers,

Today I bring you a post on Kate's sailor style.

Who remembers Kate stepping out in an interesting Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen 'sailor' dress in July 2011? The Duchess opted for the cable-knit dress on the 2011 tour of Canada alongside Princess William.

Although not a 'typical Kate' look, it wasn't the first time Kate wore a nautical inspired outfit and it wasn't the last (remember the Sarah Burton outfit she wore to Birmingham in August 2011 - if you can't remember see my post here. PS the Marks and Spencer shirt is now on sale!!!).

Ever the trend setter, Kate must have inspired designer closets again, and it's filtered down on to the high street. The luxurious high street brand Jaeger have a similar (but not a replica) 'sailor dress' for sale in store and on line. The dress is £160 and available in sizes 6-16 (UK). It's main features are the nipped in waist (a signature Middleton fit), classic shift shape, knee length fit (another signature fit), and collar detailing.

The one flaw is that it doesn't have sleeves, but my tip to you is to not let this put you off. Instead invest in a navy blue blazer (for which there are many options on the high street). I really like this navy blazer from retailer Zara. It's simple, elegant and stylish, and it's only £39.99! The zip detailing really adds the finishing touches.

Team your dress and jacket with blue court shoes and a small navy clutch or hand bag. Here are two options.

Van Dal shoes at Denbenhams £79.99

Debut clutch at Debenhams £18.00

To make the outfit less fussy (ala Kate) tie your hair back in a pony tale, and don't forget to smile!

What do you think? To buy or not to buy? Which 'nautical' Kate look has been your favourite? I'd love to hear your thouhts!

Happy Friday :)
